Almost the end of the semester!

It's the thirtieth of June! Happy Birthday, Jacob!

So, with exactly twenty-one days left before finals, I figured I had better post from me for the first time this semester (reminder, this font is me, Christopher, not her, Kylie).

Side note: the spell checker for Blogger doesn't automatically recognize Kylie as a correctly spelled word, yet does recognize the Italian name Aldo. Credibility=Lost.

Man, the end of the semester is coming, and it is coming quickly. I'm not ready! I'm doing well in all my classes, though I have temporarily lost my straight-A status this semester (soon-to-be-reclaimed status? Sure hope so). I've been doing so much math that I don't have cool dreams anymore--only dreams that involve me calculating the energy expenditure of a rugby tackle or figuring the moment of a shower rack. It's harder, but infinitely more enjoyable, than any humanities or history class I've yet taken. Not that I  think those are unimportant subjects, I respect them, but I get more out of Wikipedia procrastinating for those classes than I gain from listening to a professor tell me that art is important. Can you tell I resent being assigned those classes as requirements for graduation. I have mixed feelings about gen ed requirements. Oh well, I don't type quickly enough to rant, and it's not a big deal anyway. Moving on.

We're pregnant! We have been to the doctor twice, and the baby is 14ish weeks old. Still too young for a gender, but Kylie definitely feels pregnant. The due date is late December, just after Christmas. As we have no gender for the baby, we have decided to use "Little Baby No-Name" for now. It's catchy, isn't it?

Nathaniel is definitely growing up! He is using his words a bunch more: Jesus, cheese, trees, moon, go, shoe, juice, Dad, Mom, Gigi, choo-choo, and I'm sure I've missed some. He has also gotten to the stage of tantrums. I'm very glad we don't live in an apartment complex with a toddler! Though I'm sure our neighbors still him scream every now and then. I never knew a child would cry over some of the things for which they take umbrage! For example, today I didn't understand that he wanted the stool he was sitting in while eating to be closer to the desk where I was doing homework. I mistakenly assumed he wanted water, and you would have thought I was offering him a sippy-cup with the intent to kill. He did, however, manage to keep his mouth stuffed with blueberries. I was proud of his ability to neither choke nor spew mashed fruit on my homework.

Lest you think he has no happy times, I will share a video. This is just a video of the things we do while Kylie is at work. It is just over four minutes of a typical day. Apologies in advance for poor filming, any messes, etc.

He discovered the white bread just before I filmed that. He wouldn't eat it before, he'd just shut his mouth and shake his head. Finding a nearly empty loaf on the table, however, is the way to entice a toddler. Next thing I knew, two pieces were gone. Also, the mess under the table? The remains of a pad of sticky notes, foolishly left on the edge of my homework desk as I fixed him a snack. BOOM, sticky notes everywhere. EVERYWHERE. And a very happy little boy cheerfully covering the chair in pink. :)

Kylie is working, she found a job almost immediately upon applying. She is an optical assistant (I think?) at a local optometrist, and so far she seems to like it. She frequently tells me about the machines with obscure, cool-sounding names she works with, so I think that at the least she enjoys learning the new stuff involved.

I am currently taking five classes (15 credits): Physics 1, Calculus 1, Computational Engineering (programming for engineers), Statics (wikipedia explains it), and Engineering Graphics (using Solidworks, a CAD program). I love it all, so much that I couldn't tell you which class I like the most, in spite of the eight-or-so hours per day I try to spend on homework (depending on many factors, including procrastination, Nathaniel, and how tired I am). I've already gotten to sign up for fall semester (got an override to attend, pretty sweet), but it's hard to decide whether or not I should take 14 or 17 or 20 credits (haha, 20 is extreme. but the schedule would be perfect--if I didn't want to sleep, eat, or see my family for three months). Who would have thought I'd actually want to take physics 2, calculus 2+3, 2 engineering courses, geology, and construction all at once? After all, it would only be one class more than now!

Well, this certainly turned out much longer than I anticipated, how about you? Exceeded expectations? Well, hopefully I will be both more consistent and less garrulous when it comes to blogging. But, it is time to end, I've been using this as an excuse not to do calculus for long enough. Various pictures, with or without captions, to follow. So long!

[Wearing his cowboy boots: he was resistant to change, but overcame it after I made him smell the leather vs his tennis shoes. It's just persuasive.]

[He loves to eat next to me. He'll ask for music and dance while I do homework. Or try to help. I've turned in more than one assignment with the note "Sorry, my 18 month old got ahold of it" next to a scribble.]
